CALL TO ACTION

So, you’ve created your gorgeous piece of marketing material and used an amazing image but how do you sign it off – well, with a call to action (CTA) of course! Otherwise, you’re just literally telling people about your product or service and not asking them to do anything. In this article In this article I’ll list a few key things to remember when creating a call to action. (If you’re feeling lazy then just watch my video above!)

1: STAND OUT

Use a contrasting colour to ensure your call to action stands out. Reds, oranges and yellows are often used as these create a sense of urgency and create a psychological response to buy but whatever colour you choose, make sure it harmonises with the rest of the colours you have used.

2: USE AN IMAGE

Reinforce it by using relevant images behind the call to action. People are always more drawn to an image, plus if you place your CTA against an image people are more likely to become emotionally invested and therefore click your link. The image can also help quickly describe what they will be getting.

3: KEEP IT SIMPLE

This process needs to be made easy so eliminate as many steps as possible. If there is too much for them to do then they are likely to change their mind, become bored or distracted and drop out. If you’re taking payment details then ensure this is as hassle free as possible and happens early on in the process.

4: USE PSYCHOLOGY

Create another call to action that doesn’t look so great and place it right next to the one you want them to click on. By doing this you’re making your desired call to action much more attractive and appealing.

5: KEEP IT CLEAR

Don’t hide your CTA in amongst lots of text. It needs to really stand out so either use it in a great image (like in point 2) or keep lots of clear space around it. Remember that most people scan read and just pick up they key parts.

6: POP UPS!

Yes, they’re annoying but a pop up on a website does work. Create on to pop up at some point such as after 10 seconds or when they click to leave your website just with a gentle nudge. Don’t overdo this – just once is enough but it’s certainly not a chance to miss.

7: BOAST

Boast and tell people how many others have benefitted from clicking the CTA. “over 1,000 people have turned their business around with my secrets to success – will you be one of them?” Text like this tells people they’re not alone and adds credence to your offer. add a smashing testimonial too and you’re sprinkling your CTA with all the right ingredients.

8: URGENCY

Add a sense of urgency by making it time specific ie, “this offer is only valid for 48 hours” means people need to act now. If you also apply some monetary value this will also help push people in the right direction.
